Purrfect Dominion beginner's guide

8 min readยท Updated 12 September 2026

Purrfect Dominion is a multiplayer strategy game that runs straight in your browser, with no download and no install. You pick a faction of animals, build a city, gather resources and defend them from other players.

This guide covers your first hours: what to do first, which mistakes to avoid, and how to reach your first player fight without losing everything you built.

1. First question: are you a builder or a raider?

Every session in Purrfect Dominion runs on two parallel tracks: the economy, meaning how much you produce, and conflict, meaning how much you take from others and keep for yourself.

New players usually pick one. Players who only build become rich, defenceless targets. Players who only attack run out of production and stall the moment their neighbours tighten their defences. Your first hours tell you which way you lean, but the long-term answer is always both, in the right order.

That order is economy first, army second. An army without income burns itself out; production without an army is, early on, protected mostly by being an unattractive target.

2. Choosing a faction

There are three factions and each one pushes a different style. None is objectively stronger: what changes is the pace and the kind of mistakes it forgives.

  • Ninja Cats โ€” speed, raids, constant pressure. Great if you log in often in short bursts, poor if you only check in once a day.
  • Imperial Corgis โ€” order, structure, defence. The most forgiving faction while you learn, because it tolerates absences and punishes positioning errors less.
  • Zen Capybaras โ€” patience and economy. Excellent over time, but slower early on, and they need you not to be the most obvious target on the map.

3. Your first buildings

Build what produces first, what stores second, what fights last. A full warehouse with no protection is a gift to the first raider; a huge army with no income grinds to a halt on its own.

An opening that almost always works: raise base production as high as you can afford, then increase storage capacity, then open the barracks. Support structures and cosmetics come after that.

  • Never leave resources sitting above your protected capacity โ€” that is the part you lose first.
  • Upgrading a low-level building is cheap and pays off immediately: prefer it to a new building you don't know how to use yet.
  • Always leave a construction queued before you log off.

4. Cookies: the resource behind every decision

Cookies are the game's core resource: you produce them, you stockpile them, and other players steal them. Almost every strategic decision is really a decision about how many Cookies to hold and how many to convert into something solid right now.

The practical rule is simple: liquid resources are at risk, invested resources are not. If you are about to be away for hours, spend. Nobody can steal a building level.

5. Your first fight

Sooner or later somebody attacks you. That is not a failure: it is where the game actually begins. What matters is the cost.

Before attacking back, look at who you are facing. A target is worth it when it holds exposed resources and thin defences, not simply because it is nearby. An attack that returns less than it cost is a loss, even when the battle is reported as a win.

  • Scout before you strike: information is cheaper than troops.
  • Don't attack someone far stronger out of pride โ€” retaliation usually costs more than the loot.
  • After every fight, rebuild the economy before the army.

6. Common early mistakes

  • Hoarding resources without spending them, staying a rich target.
  • Building barracks before production and running out of income.
  • Changing strategy after every lost battle.
  • Playing alone and ignoring alliances and neighbours.
  • Putting everything into one army that a single battle can erase.
